Tourism on Bonaire--Study Being Done to Determine its Worth

It’s clear to all that Bonaire’s economy is driven by tourism.� Both cruise and diving tourists provide employment and income for the people of the island. Of course, the activities of these tourists have an impact on our island, which can be both positive as well as negative. In addition to increased employment and income, a positive aspect includes a liveliness on the island and the possibilities for doing business that translate into economic growth for Bonaire. However, the impact on nature and the noise and congestion in and around Kralendijk can be negative aspects of tourism. Therefore, a new research project was launched last week to measure the overall effectiveness and the positive and negative aspects of tourism.

The 2011/2012 winter season brought the second annual Kaminda di Arte to Bonaire for its residents and visitors.� The Art Tour is held the third Sunday of each month, now through March, 2012, and includes many of the island’s galleries or ateliers showcasing anything from fine art through craft items made with items found on Bonaire’s shorelines.

The Bonaire Insider has just learned that Insel Air must unfortunately immediately discontinue the Wednesday flight from Charlotte, North Carolina (USA) to Bonaire, with a connection in Curacao, beginning with tomorrow’s flight, January 18th, 2012.�
Dutch Antilles Express to Resume Service Between Bonaire and Curacao

Dutch Antilles Express (DAE) will re-introduce flights between Bonaire and Curacao on February 3, 2025 on a fully renovated ATR-42. The flight will operate three times daily with connections to other DAE destinations. DAE also announced the intention to expand the destinations to which they fly and to increase their fleet later this year.�

The island of Bonaire has swept top honors once again, receiving four #1 ratings, which is more than any other destination scored in the Caribbean/Atlantic category, while continuing its reign as one of the top diving destinations. For the tenth consecutive year, Bonaire has taken first place for Best Overall Dive Destination and island for Best Shore Diving.
